Is Diana Mini a good camera for beginners?

I am a beginner and was wondering if I should get a Diana Mini camera. I have done a lot of research on it and I am satisfied but I just want your opinions.

A beginner “what”? Photographer?, film user?, first camera? In my opinion, no, this is not a good camera for a beginner. It is actually one of the worse type Cameras anyone can use when they are beginning. It IS CAPABLE of doing some interesting work…. BUT….. you really should have experience with film and a GOOD understanding of exposure before tying to use such a camera. Cameras of this type are called “toy” cameras, and they are dirt simple. However, the very simplicity of them makes them difficult to obtain good results with consistently. You have little to no control of shutter speed or aperture. You are basically locked into set parameters, and when the conditions do not match what the built in camera settings are, then you are going to have very poor photos. Even someone with lots of experience with film and exposure will seldom get a full roll of good shots with these cameras. Usually a beginner will get a LOT of bad photos, spend lots of money on film and processing, get frustrated, throw the camera in a drawer, and come away with a bitter and totally WRONG impression of what film photography is.

To start, you need a camera that allows you CONTROL of exposure and something with which you can actually LEARN photography. You can learn NOTHING…. repeat NOTHING with a Diana, (or Holga, or any “lomography” type camera). The Diana type of camera is nice for a fun second camera, but most definitely NOT for a beginning camera.

Here are the type of cameras you need, a 35mm SLR:
